Great review. I'm also getting ready to do a review for my youtube channel. I agree with everything you pointed out, and would add that the magic items chapter is just off the hook in its completeness, and covers the gamut of classic magic items for Dungeons and Dragons.
That sounds great, Jay Sharpe! Yes, the real books will definitely be out by then. I was hoping to get someone to run a game at one of the cons, and GaryCon is certainly one of the most appropriate. :-)
This reads more like "thoughts on the book" rather than a review.
However, Blueholme is magnificent and deserves all the attention it gets. I would have liked to see have seen more "boxed" house-rules (STR bonus for fighters) text and less levels. 20 levels is fine for modern D&D where you pop up a level after every session but for old-school, 20 is overkill.
Jay Sharpe Also, it's the 40th Anniversary of Holmes Basic this year (July 2017-July 2018), so Gary Con X would be the perfect occasion to use the Blueholme rules for your adventures.
Mike Hill Sorry, I'm working on finding my voice in reviews. Blueholme just blew me away though. I geeked out more than perhaps I should have, but I really enjoy the book that much.

ReplyDeleteThank you both! I have to say I'm blown away and humbled by the reactions so far. To think it all started as a Holmes errata sheet ... :-P

ReplyDeleteWhat levels are the adventures? Any chance of having a sneak peek? ;-)
