Humble Pi in a dungeon

Map Key of the Plague Year 4: Humble Pie

A Throne raised up on a small dais, stone, covered in dust. Also a banquet table in the middle of the room, also stone and covered in dust. On the table are three pristine well decorated cakes. They look delicious, but don't say that. Let the players ask.

Has anyone taken the time to layout the Dungeon from Maze of Peril forplay.

I've been reading Maze of Peril by Holmes before I fall asleep.

I probably shouldn't be but some of the things were eerie. I didn't know about the Dagonites but put a Kuo Toa temple.

During the first session the PCs find the temple and steal a stature just like Boinger et al. on their first adventure in the underworld.

This leads to problems that follow both parties out of the underworld and into the town.

I mean I guess we both read Shadow over Innsmouth and then drew some maps, so it shouldn't be that surprising.

NPC Class: Plague Doctor

Herman Klang wrote:

I made this NPC class for a Holmes Basic adventure I ran (The last before I switched to BLUEHOLME™). It looks pretty generic but relies on Holmes's rules for making potions.

Chris P.  I wrote up the class.

Expanding the Monster XP Chart from Holmes

Herman Klang wrote:

EXPANDING THE MONSTER XP CHART FORM HOLMES

I am too dumb to figure out how to expand the "Experience Points for Monsters Overcome" Chart on page 11 of the Holmes.

What is the pattern? 5, 10, 15, 20, 25, 35, 50, 75, 125, 175, 225....
What is up with the differences between 3 and 3+1 in xp? That is the only time there is an increase of 15 xp.

Then the bonus for special abilities is weird too.

Here is a player made map from my Portown campaign.

Here is a player made map from my Portown campaign. I think it could make a good play aid for running the basic dungeon.

Sages in Holmes/Portown?

Herman Klang wrote:

Does anyone know what sages were like in Holmes/Portown? The rumors talk about a sage Ethbran.

There is a character called Ethbrand in something called the Dreamer's Cycle who might be the inpsiration (it's contemporary epic fantasy).

Was there a sage that Bonger and Zereth consulted?

I want to have one ready to go in case my players decide to do something other than rush in blindly.

Tridentcon

Herman Klang wrote:

I will be at Tridentcon in Baltimore this weekend running some Blueholme/Holmes basic. It is my first time running a game at a con. It will either be a disaster or great or somewhere in between.

Half-Orc PCs - two versions

Herman Klang wrote:

After the discussion last week. I came up with two possible versions of the half orc for my campaign. Thanks to everyone who contributed. Chris Holmes gave me the idea to go for a wimpy Cleric version and a non wimpy version. I stole some stuff from the Zenopus Archives. That's just a little bit of the input I used.

Half-Orc PCs?

Herman Klang wrote:

Some of you may know that I favor a human centric world. That said I have a player that wants to be a half-orc what's a good Holmesian take on the half-orc as a player race/class amalgam..

Pics and House Rules from Old Holmes Campaign

Originally shared by Herman Klang

I found more some bad drawings from my old campaign as well as some house rules modifying how weapon damage works for fighters in Holmes.

Old notes expanding the Holmes sample dungeon.

I stumbled upon some old notes expanding the Holmes sample dungeon. I believe my intention was to add a stairway at the end of the hall heading west from room N. I was inspired to post it cause of all the cool sample dungeon stuff I've seen recently on Zenopus archives. I do not think this is as well thought out as that stuff.

demihumans and level limits.

I am once again harping on demihumans and level limits. This is my explanation for why dwarfs have level limits. Holmes is of course silent on level limits, but the rules suggest switching to OD&D or AD&D, both have level limits. I have learned from Chris Holmes that Holmes himself probably did not enforce level limits in his campaign. So, I dunno .. please don't ban me for posting this garbage.

I wanted to add dwarfs to the list of demihumans that have in world reasons for level limits.

racial level limits?

Herman Klang wrote:

Hey,

When you guys are playing Holmes basic and extending it, do you use racial level limits? I know this question has probably been asked before. Right? Is there a current consensus?
