Aurrgh, now I want to try running Keep on the Borderlands as suggested here! It sounds great!

(Don't tell anybody that I've never played or even read that module. I legit have no idea what the "bree-yark" joke is all about. No spoilers!)

Amazingly, at our closest FLGS a fellow ran a B/X game for Free Game Day & didn't start til mid-afternoon so I was able to play. He ran the upper level of A1 Slave Pits of the Undercity. I made a 5th lvl Elf named Kel-Tor & the party completed its mission. #freerpgday

Over the past few years I've slowly been creating reference sheets for Holmes Basic, under the title "Holmes Ref" - Reference Sheets for Holmes Referees. For Free RPG Day this year, I've made available the first Holmes Ref compilation, a free 10-page pdf. Includes one new item, a blank character sheet that matches the format of the character generation sheet. #holmesref

Doug's #skullmountain - available as as free download just in time for #freerpgday - I'd credit Wham rather than Holmes, as there's no evidence that Holmes contributed to the concept. The Holmes Manuscript has a different cross-section.

Anyone else have it?
It seems to be a spell-point system for OD&D and/or Holmes.

Does anyone know about the forthcoming J. Eric Holmes anthology, Tales of Peril?:

Is there going to be any connection between this and the Holmes D&D boxed set (or other D&D products created by Holmes)?

Alien Garden: a Game Review by Holmes

Tony Rowe wrote:

Alien Garden is a pioneering computer toy for the Atari 8-bit computer line. It isn't really a game: the player is an alien bird or insect soaring over an alien landscape, interacting with the mutating plants growing there. It was designed by Bernie DeKoven (known for his participation in the "New Games" movement to create non-competitive games) and programmed by Jaron Lanier (who would later popularize the term "virtual reality" and be named one of TIME 100 most influential people in 2010).

Why do I bring this up in the Holmes Basic group? The good doctor himself saw enough merit in this software to write a two-page review for GAMEPLAY magazine issue no. 6. Here we learn that Dr. Holmes used an 8-bit Atari computer (probably an Atari 800), enjoyed playing Crossfire (by Sierra On-Line) and Zaxxon (SEGA) and did not get stoned before playing games.

My introduction to #ntrpgcon --- Chris Kutalik's Eld game.

My introduction to #ntrpgcon --- Chris Kutalik's Eld game. IIRC, this was during the break. My blurry hand reaches for coffee in the lower right corner, Chris Holmes is in the center, talking to the DM. I initially played a Wereshark Thief, who perished when impaled simultaneously by 5 or 6 Eld. And then I played Zereth!

Well, I discovered something new, that I didn't know before... Zach, I'm sure you knew this. There is a version of "Keep on the Borderlands" that is based off of Holme's rules. That is, the monsters all have a DX (Dexterity) score, and the rules are strictly Holmes basic.

Are there any other modules out there like that? I know B1 came with the boxed set initially.

With my con-friend Chris Holmes as a player in my North Texas RPG "Misty Isles of the Eld" game along with some other Blue Box fans, I decided to play to the audience with the pregens: the famous Zereth and Boinger, a wereshark, lawful warbear (close enough), samurai, etc.
