I think a few of us might have heard something ... ;-)

Does anyone know about the forthcoming J. Eric Holmes anthology, Tales of Peril?:

Is there going to be any connection between this and the Holmes D&D boxed set (or other D&D products created by Holmes)?

The original Boinger and Zereth character sheets were found? Were copies made for the attendees of the Holmes panel?
ReplyDeleteThey said they slowed down when they found they wouldn't hit north Texas con in 2015... But didn't they just miss it again for 2016?

ReplyDeleteI heard that the release date was going to be targeting August
ReplyDeleteRon and David are both correct: we intentionally slowed down the release for NTX last year, but then Juniper laid me off from my day job the week after returning from NTX in June 2015. After I found work again (which took six months), I decided that I needed to re-edit Maze of Peril (which was definitely worth it), and we received some new information that needed to be integrated into the book (recollections from Murray's player, including his PC sheets). So, we tried hard to have the book for NTX this year, but we're committed to a high-quality product, and decided not to rush it once more.
ReplyDeleteThat said, our printer did get the signature sheets for the first, limited edition send to us at NTX; the first 200-ish will be numbered and signed by Chris Holmes, Zach H, and me.
And we shared a handout at NTX that shows the original Boinger, Zereth, and Murray PC sheets (Boinger's is a modern recreation), and it also included some pics of JEH and Chris Holmes, as well as an extract from Zach H's annotated bibliography essay. I'll get that posted over the weekend, along with the slide show that we weren't able to share at the reading (no cord to connect the projector to the laptop, alas).
That help?
Gooder is better than quickerer, in this case, IMO.
ReplyDeleteAllan Grohe thanks so much! I hope there's a way to reserve one of the first 200.
ReplyDeleteThis is encouraging :)
ReplyDeleteRon Yonts: we'll be announcing the product once its available, and orders will be taken via our usual ordering process @ http://black-blade-publishing.com/Ordering.aspx
ReplyDeleteJon Hershberger and I probably aren't planning a reservation process for orders, but we'll discuss it and let folks know prior to the book's general availability.
I guess most of us here will find out pretty early on! Certainly planning to go for one of those first 200. Allan Grohe, way back when electronic versions were mooted, is that still happening? While I like having hard copies on my shelf, in practice that's usually where they stay - I need ebooks if I'm going to get a chance to read them.
ReplyDelete474 Members here... Only 200 signed copies... Hmmm...
ReplyDeleteMichael Thomas: we do plan to publish an e-book version, but haven't worked out the timing details yet (whether it will be issued simultaneously with or after the initial print run, for example).
ReplyDeleteJon Wilson: managing the print run is the biggest cost and risk in publishing, and this is a publishing experiment for us---Black Blade is, after all, primarily an RPG publisher rather than a fiction publisher.
ReplyDeleteWe are investigating our print run size options, but if we print 1000 copies of of Tales of Peril and sell 474 copies in 4 months, then sit on 536 copies for 5 years, that could significantly hurt or even potentially sink the company. So, we proceed cautiously. The book's contents will be the same between the limited and trade editions, so there's no content loss if someone doesn't buy the limited edition.
I can appreciate the math problems that involve variables that only the future knows, have no doubt.
ReplyDeleteIn case you've not seen this info yet, the recording from the NTX reading and panel discussion is now posted: https://plus.google.com/u/0/114925558072534747113/posts/Nj3PtrkKTb7
ReplyDelete(From the back seat) Are we there yet?
ReplyDeleteWe must be there soon, right? ;-)
ReplyDeleteWe're still waiting on final permissions for some artwork, but I'm hopeful that we'll go to press in November. The art's worth waiting on, however, so we'll have to see how long that takes to finalize.
ReplyDeleteI am certain that at least some of the art is worth waiting for. Some xmas reading would be nice. ;-)
ReplyDeleteStill looking forward to this. Any update?
ReplyDeleteThe cover art is in, and the book is in layout. Should release before the North Texas RPGCon in early June.
ReplyDeleteIf so, we can buy a copy there?
ReplyDeleteDefinitely, Jonathan Perkel!
ReplyDeleteNow that GaryCon is behind us, I'll be sharing some cover images and more details about the book's schedule, page count and price, release date, etc. as they finalize over the next couple of months.
Is there going to be an e-reader version?
