Today's session:

Originally shared by Van Noa

Today's session:

The PC's rode a runaway mine cart to it's conclusion nearly faceplanting in front of the skeletal guardsman. They bluffed their way past the Captain, securing some information on the where abouts of the Sunshard. Avoiding being pulverized on a conveyor belt, made short work of my rock eating monsters, knocked over the oldest tree in an underground arboreum and fought off a squad of attack penguins.

Overall a great game! Heading to the conclusion of the evil elemental forces beneath Skull Mountain.

Bone Bugs for Holmes Basic

Tristan Tanner wrote:

These are just crawling all over Skull Mountain. They wouldn't be that much of a problem, but the necromancers who made them out of spare parts also decided to add a deadly dose of venom to their fangs...

Skull-Gated Mountain Fortress of Telemark

Just spotted this skull-gated mountain fortress of the evil wizard Telemark in the strip Finieous Fingers in Dragon #12, Feb 1978. #skullmountain

A #skullmountain variant by Darlene, from her 1982 card game Jasmine: The Battle for Mid-Realm. She has a page about it on her blog: http://darlenetheartist.com/tag/fire-queen-of-ildshoii/

"Ildshoii Castle, carved from shiny black obsidian rock, rose high above a crown of volcanos. The dark castle was the domain of Melantha, the ruler of Medrylthorn ..."

You all reminded me of the film House on Skull Mountain, notable for one of the worst mat paintings ever. A similarly bad skull mountain appears in People that Time Forgot.

Look, the Bumble lives in a Skull Mountain!

Look, the Bumble lives in a Skull Mountain! My wife noticed this while we watched the Rudolph special on broadcast TV last night. Still one of the best adventures ever ... I think a fun RPG could be made of this setting. PC classes are marginalized occupants of Christmastown: reindeer who doesn't make the cut, elf who hates toy-making, misfit toy or odd human explorer. You can travel to far off lands by stepping on an ice floe at the edge of the sea. #skullmountain

Idea for a Holmes campaign: PCs are residents of Skull Mountain

Idea for a Holmes campaign: 1st level characters start as residents of the domed city under Skull Mountain, the last surviving civilization of a post apocalyptic fantasy land (think Logan's Run). The Pit is actually a ventilation shaft. Dungeon levels get more difficult as they go up, with the outside wilderness being the worst.

Skull Caverns by Karl Stjernberg

Who dares enter the Skull Caverns™? A guy in the tavern told me that there's a lonely chap in the coffin vault that needs cheering up! Just look out for the maggot-lickers! If you need directions, you can always ask the bone-munchers, but offer 'em a bite first, hm?

Fantastic cross-section from The Dungeoneer Journal #23 (1980)

Fantastic cross-section by Derek Watson from The Dungeoneer Journal #23 (Oct/Nov 1980). I have this issue & it looks even better in print. Stock it with some monsters & run it as a starter dungeon!
