Just spotted this skull-gated mountain fortress of the evil wizard Telemark in the strip Finieous Fingers in Dragon #12, Feb 1978. #skullmountain

    And here is the first panel of the follow-up strip from Dragon #13, showing "the typical skull shaped gate"...! Dig the torchlight eyes.

    The portcullis teeth are a nice touch, too. So skull entrances are typical, eh? There must have been an evil lair builfing boom at one time, and a shull entrance was "simply de rigeur, darling".
