Very cute. They resemble, and appear to be designed by children.
ReplyDeleteWhen I was a kid back in the '70s I used to read a comic book called "UFO Flying Saucers", which featured stories based on supposedly true encounters. These monsters of yours are bringing back some really old memories for me!
ReplyDeleteAs a Kentuckian, I can validate the facts presented here.
ReplyDeleteThat drawing resembles the Pathfinder Goblins. vidshomepage.weebly.com
ReplyDeleteBrett Elliott , my folks opened and owned a used book store shortly in the late 70s/early 80s when I was very young (which remained open after they sold it til late 2013). I got a lot of 70s comics of all stripes during that era and much of it were those cheap and wonderful Whitman comics, including the title you mentioned. Oddly enough, I actually had a combo-sticker and coloring book based on some of those stories and art from that book. I also have another comic with a wholly different title that features the very same stories and same cover art as well. That is to say one was called "UFO's and FLying Saucers" and the other may have been called ...I dunno...."Encounters With UFOs" or some such. In short, a reprint title from the VERY SAME era, but with a different cover title. Weird stuff. I should dig that stuff out. It gave me the creeps (in a fun way) way back when. :)

Eric Norred I need to finish my list of dwarf moonshine recipes.
ReplyDeleteEric Norred Thanks for sharing that information! Yeah, I was maybe 10 or so when those comics were published, and they definitely creeped me out. They made a big enough impression that I still immediately recognize the background story to these monsters posted here.
