Was reading something about "favorite character classes" in a 1e FB group recently, and someone posted about the concept of a multi-class "Illusionist/Assassin" — sounded like a very interesting source of possibilities (ie. "spy" or just a very deadly killer?). Has anyone dabbled with this in any way/shape/form?
That is the class of your first adversaries in 'UK2 Gauntlet'. It's a great combination. It's only available to 1/2 orcs, iirc.
ReplyDeleteGnomes, not half-orcs, Charley: half-orcs can't be any spell caster except for lame clerics ;)
ReplyDeleteThey would make excellent spies, capable of concealing themselves or bedazzling unsuspecting victims.
ReplyDeleteDang it. Now I have to go home and break out my copy of Gauntlet and see what race they are.
ReplyDeleteNothing better than a sociopathic gnome
ReplyDeleteDang it. Just checked. A: It’s The Sentinel, not The Gauntlet, and B: there are no Illusionist /Thieves. Oh well.
ReplyDeleteI found a DF thread on them. Not listed in the PHB, but are mentioned in the DMG https://www.dragonsfoot.org/forums/viewtopic.php?f=1&t=37937
ReplyDeleteThe other possibility would be a dual class human
ReplyDeleteI've played a gnome illusionist/assassin before. Yes, it was a blast.
ReplyDeleteWho else has seen Trollhunters? It has killer gnomes. In addition to the pointy teeth, they have a big spike on their heads under the pointy hat.

Zach H My family loves Trollhunters. And, yes, Gnome Chomsky is fairly ingenious.
