Has anyone taken the time to prepare some of the more common creatures for player character usage?

Has anyone taken the time to prepare some of the more common creatures for player character usage? Im about to start a spreadsheet to determine some racial modifiers for thief abilities and adjusted abilities to represent a level 1 character of that race. Blueholme does so for some of the common demi-humans but id like to flesh out the list a bit :)

But, of someone has already done so, no need to reinvent the wheel..

  1. Have you seen the assorted Holmes reference sheets available for free download on Zach's Zenopus Archives site? Hella useful, and may cover what you're looking for: sites.google.com - Holmes Ref - Reference Sheets for Holmes Basic Referees - Zenopus Archives

  2. I don't think this will sway anybody one little bit, but I've started thinking of race and class categories as broader silos rather than specific builds.

Kobold? Halfling thief. Orc? Fighter. Dragon hatching? Thief (climb walls subs in for any aerial feats). I just found that the added complexity and minor modifiers made no real difference at the table.

  3. Yeah the minor details are...minor +jarrett perdue but i find that my players tend to relish even a bit of unique "snowflakiness" to their characters

  4. I get it. Orcs of Thar might help. I remember a Dragon Magazine article too and I'm casting about for my list of useful issues but can't seem to lay hands on it at the moment.

  5. Here's my centaur: d10 for HD to represent their increased size (precedent is halflings only getting d6). Can be Fighters or Clerics (Druids if used). Armor cost is human + barding cost. Magic armor will almost never be found. Can attack with hooves in place of a weapon for d6 damage. At fourth level they can attack twice a round, once with weapon, once with hooves, which is what the monster version (4 HD) can do in OD&D. Can fire a bow while moving. Size will preclude entry to certain areas. Can carry another player if not armored, but will absolutely not wear a saddle.

  6. I like your centaur I would also give them a bonus on opening doors and obviously on movement. I make them do a Dexterity save every time they have to negotiate stairs.
