Holmes Basic was released the same year as Star Wars.

Holmes Basic was released the same year as Star Wars. Carrie Fisher, Mark Hamill and Harrison Ford were probably the first actors that I knew by name.

Thanks, Carrie.

  1. Leia was literally the first iconic movie character I ever became aware of (sorry, Luke). I thought I was getting hardened to the number of formative idols I've lost this year, but Carrie Fisher's death somehow hit me harder than all the others, even Bowie - but then I realised that Star Wars predated my Bowie obsession by a whole year.

Carrie Fisher, drowned in moonlight, strangled by her own bra. :-(

  2. That was a great year for Dad. Star wars made it a lot more aceptable to be a nerd.

  3. I got to see Rogue One on Monday. The bit at the end, I felt like I was having an out of body experience already, and then there was Princess Leia, looking just as she'd looked in 1977... and it dropped into complete surreality.

Now I know why. The circle closed.

    RIP Carrie.

  4. 1977 was the watershed year in my creative life: I saw Star Wars, first played D&D, and we moved into the home my parents still live in (one complete with trapdoors, secret doors, and other hidden features).

  5. Are you going to tell us more about this mystery house?

  6. Heh, at some point yes:  Zagig's Mansion, in my mind, is a combination of the various homes I've lived in and known, with the Winchester Mystery House and Hearst Castle thrown into the mix too :D

  7. Two very cool houses to visit, not sure I'd want to live in either one.
