Thanks! Not sure the total time. I started working on it last week. It does take some time to get used to the controls. I had the most trouble with saving it, particularly because the map I created is larger than the default area. I use a Mac so I ended up printing the .svg file to a pdf in Chrome, and then using Preview to convert to a png so I could post in the blogger post.
Have you considered using GIMP? I use it exclusively for "old school maps". It's free, though there is a bit of a learning curve. I followed some tutorials over at the Cartographer's Guild forums and had some basic maps created in a few hours.
I have GIMP installed, but haven't taken the time to learn it. I occasionally use it for image editing functions that Preview can't handle, like rotation of a few degrees. I'm happy with Gridmapper for smaller, simpler maps but if I get into something larger or with more curving passages I'll take a look at it.
How long did that take you Zach, I've used Gridmapper before and found it awfully fiddly. The map looks great!

ReplyDeleteJust improved the original post so it's easier to view a larger version. Click on the captioned link under the image rather than on the image itself.

ReplyDeleteThis is one of my early attempts with GIMP.

Charley Phipps I actually posted that map on my blog a number of years ago: zenopusarchives.blogspot.com - Cave of the Unknown map by Druvas
