  1. It is kind of weird that the trap is well-oiled and the snake fed. In the beginning of the book it seems like it is really rare for people to locate the underworld so that trap is not intended for adventurers probably. Are the orcs trying to catch the dagonites? Are they rival factions? The orcs disappear from the book after the beginning so we never really find out what their deal is.

  2. Herman Klang Very old style D&D: "a wizard did it!" Not much interest in Dungeon ecology! My guess is that it was there to protect the area from other raiders in the Underworld (like the purple worm) and the orcs were mercenaries hired by the dagonites.

  4. Someone should write the story from the perspective of the orcs. Sort of a rosencrantz and guildenstern are dead treatment.
