Oh man, you were in my neck of the woods. I am just 15 min away in Vancouver. Some time back I bought several painted Conquistadors that belonged to Holmes. Got them from Billy on eBay.
Tony Rowe Sorry the delay in responding. I don't think the mini was the same as that wizard sculpt, but I'm not sure. I only noted it briefly and can't remember the exact pose.
Pictures?
ReplyDeleteI am pretty sure I have been to his storefront when I lived there. Old star wars guys and he man stuff etc near Burnside
ReplyDeleteCameron DuBeers I was pressed for time so only took one pic, which will be on the blog soon. But Billy is planning on scanning more for us
ReplyDeleteCool! I appreciate it!
ReplyDeleteScott Mob That's right. It's basically the next block over from Powell's. They have a box of D&D and LJN toys. I bought a LJN Roper.
ReplyDeleteBilly has the D&D on Barsoom manuscript, a Gen Con game, so hopefully we'll see that at some point
ReplyDelete"The Sorceror's Jewel" was originally titled "The Apprentice Treasure Hunter". It sounded like it was changed by the Dragon editor.
ReplyDeleteI got a roper from Billy too. Glad you got to visit, sorry I couldn't join you.

ReplyDeleteThat's great news, Zach! Sounds like we'll have new info to compile for the next printing of Tales of Peril! :D
ReplyDeleteYes Will, Dad had a large May an army which I played against his Conquistadors. I can't remember who won.
ReplyDeleteChris Holmes I feel very honored to have them. They will always be something I treasure.
ReplyDeleteAmong the trays of minis he showed me was a blue wizard with stars on his robe, much like the wizard on the cover of the box set.
ReplyDeleteDoes Billy have a store web site with his stock listed for sale? Or does he just occasionally list certain items via eBay? Thanks.
ReplyDeleteWhat scale minis? 1/72?
ReplyDeleteAs it turns out, I was there in Portland on Sunday.
ReplyDeleteThe shop's closed on Sundays. : \
Scott Mob I believe he just has the eBay listings and the store.
ReplyDeleteThom Hall 25mm? He said it was an early middle-earth gandalf mini, so possibly Heritage or Minifigs.
ReplyDeleteZach H, is the blue wizard mini the same one seen on Holmes' desk on the back cover of FRPG? https://plus.google.com/u/0/photos/photo/103373466658249785171/6087904333811510002
ReplyDeleteThat "back cover one" is also on pg 171, methinks.
ReplyDeleteGood eye, +Jon Wilson. That looks like Ral Partha's "Evil Wizard" 01-001 miniatures-workshop.com - Image:RP-01-001v1.jpg - Lost Minis Wiki
ReplyDeleteAs it turns out, that sculpt was one of my first ever minis. Still have it tucked away in the ol' mini stash, too.
ReplyDeleteThat mini always reminded me of Frazetta's "Sorcerer."

Not to be confused with this guy... :)

ReplyDeleteZach H, and I missed your other comment about Minifigs or Heritage. This is the Minifigs "Mythical Earth" Gandalf: miniatures-workshop.com - Image:Minifigs-mystical-me4.jpg - Lost Minis Wiki
