How many words is it? I was surprised to discover that Moldvay was 61k words. Its small font is deceptive.
Holmes was my pick as well. It's only about 40 pages long (as opposed to Moldvay's 64). The fonts are comparable.
The combined 1st-to-3rd edition text comes out at a tad over 37,000 words, including all the blurby stuff.
