I'd look up your family surname's crest (google etc., the Monroe family history, crests, heraldry, etc;) and see if you can't do an homage or facsimile of that image.
Then all 3 of you, have a tangible, personal connection, not only from the event of selecting & painting that image and nostalgic (to you) mini; but probably to the NPC now as well; and of course to this game in particular.
Plus, now a few more people will be considering that mini "nostalgic" before too long.
Great suggestions above - the only addition I could make would be to get a hold of the old Greyhawk Gazetteer and copy a suitable shield emblem from there. As I recall there are a few dozen to choose from.
Mithra is worshipped in Holmes's games, so perhaps one of the Mithra symbols?

ReplyDeleteI added the shield design from one of the Wild Coast factions, and later found out that it was the Gygax family crest!
