Great article - I'm a huge Burroughs enthusiast and attended ECOF (the "Edgar Rice Burroughs Chain of Friendship") in 2016 when it was held in Los Angeles to coincide with the release of the new Tarzan movie. Many of the older members remember JEH quite well. Interestingly, ERB Inc. has recently reversed its policy regarding pastiches, and have launched an ambitious series of new novels (named "The Wild Adventures of Edgar Rice Burroughs"), many of which are quite good. Come to think of it...I wonder if they would be willing to finally publish Red Axe?
Thanks for linking to John Martins nice review. Danton Doring is finished, but may be more difficult to publish than Red Axe, because I would want to print it with John Burroughs's paintings. I will check out the Wild Adventurers series.
Chris Holmes That is incredibly cool - Burroughs wrote that one in Malibu, although had some difficulty getting it published. He based the Leopard Men on an actual African cult.
You might also be interested to note that ERB Inc. has republished deluxe editions of two of the Pellucidar novels...I have "Back to the Stone Age" and I think "Land of Terror" is coming out, soon...

ReplyDeleteI was wondering what ECOF stood for, thanks!

ReplyDeleteThat's awesome Chris! Curious, do you own that Tarzan and the Leopard Men book? Would be very cool to see a pic of that.
ReplyDeleteYes, inscribed to Dad by ERB.

Woah, you know more about ERB than I do. Are you going to North Texas RPG this Summer?
ReplyDeleteChris Holmes I'll be at Gary Con but not sure yet about NTRPG. Would be pretty amazing to be able to make it to both, though!
ReplyDeleteGary Con is at a bad time for my work. I hope to run something this Summer you would enjoy.
ReplyDeleteThat's great incentive!
