Idea: Neutral aligned monsters could be possibly tamed or swayed by one side or the other. Creatures with no alignment are not affected by the alignment struggle at all. A carrion crawler may get a taste of the power of Chaotic Evil or become blessed by Lawful good, but a black pudding will only ooze and eat, forever until the end of time, when the world is a burnt out husk from the alignment wars.
Great idea, Connor. That actually fits with another quirk of Holmes alignment - monsters with dual alignment, all of which include Neutral as one of the two options. Suggesting many neutral creatures that have been swayed to one side or the other.
I like the nil alignment idea - Neutral is not really the same, because it implies intelligent self-interest whereas a gelatinous cube is liable to attack anything and everything in its path with no thought for the consequences. If it even thinks at all.

ReplyDeleteI just remembered that Arduin has an "Amoral" alignment, which is used in an example ot describe a giant spider.
ReplyDeleteIt's notable becuase I'd heard somewhere that Arduin was made based on the Holmes rules, even though the format of is it cloaser ot OD&D.
