Let's see, in Holmes they have natural AC5, which equals chain. PCs can have this at first level, but no human armor will fit them. Non-magic plate armor will need to be custom made at 3x the cost and it may be hard to find an armorer who will do it. Magic armor that fits a lizardman will be practically non-existent.
They get a single attack of 1d8, it's unclear if this is due to weapons (stated as club or spear) or natural attack. I'd use it as the effect of claws and bite if unarmed. They are HD 2+1, so a 1st level Lizardman Fighter does 1d6 unarmed, 2nd level 1d8. Level limits (if used) as dwarves, but fighter or clerics only, no thieves.
In summary --- can be fighters or clerics with limits as dwarves. At 1st level, HD1+1, AC5 (scales), 1d6 damage (claws/bite). Plate costs 3x, magic armor non-existent. Attack for 1d8 unarmed at 2nd level. Starting Gold is the minimum, 30 GP
Gosh I love lizard men...have ever since the days of the Flash Gordon animated film/series. Don’t know why I’ve never used them as a PC race in my games (lack of interest/imagination from my players, I suppose).
I’d probably do something very similar to Zach H for a Holmes PC: AC 5, extra D8 hit points, and inability to wear human armor (shields okay) at first level. Damage for melee is 1d8 due to greater strength (Holmes note they use clubs and spears). Depending on the setting, I’d give them a hefty penalty (like -2) for reaction rolls with “civilized” species for combo of cannibal reputation and difficulty of speaking Common properly. Infravision equivalent (heightened smell) and possible initiative penalty in cold environments.
Class restrictions based on campaign setting. Level restrictions...well, Holmes doesn’t go higher than 3rd level, right? ; )
You can incorporate any of my races off of my campaign website that you like. The most unusual being the Trollborn. If you scroll to the bottom of the race list you can look that one over. I will include the pop up article I made for them as well. If you go with Trollborn you'll want to read the deity information for the Goddess Aglaeca on the gods section of the same website.
Here's the link for the Trollborn race. Trollborn are pretty much limited to warriors / fighters although I have some villain / campaign exceptions here and there for NPC's. drive.google.com - TrollbornWarriorClass.pdf
I converted the one in the 2nd edition book of humanoids to 1st for my campaign
ReplyDeletePatrick Usher how is that working out?
ReplyDeleteThanks for the tip, my hombre!
basicfantasy.org - basicfantasy.org/downloads/BF-Monsters-as-Player-Characters-Supplement-r2.pdf This is for basic fantasy RPG, so AC is ascending not descending, but it should work pretty well. Lizard-men are near the end.
ReplyDeleteAndy Action it worked just fine. He was playing as a fighter till he took a crit to the head
ReplyDeleteTristan Tanner thank you!
ReplyDeletePatrick Usher haha, noice!
ReplyDeleteI used to have an AD&D lizardman cleric (of Semuanya). I just treated him the same as a human, no special abilities.

ReplyDelete+1 hit point at first level (1+1), to make them 2+1 at 2nd. Clerics LOVE Sticks to Snakes.
