Nice design! I love the small photocopies DAT and DCS artworks. The thread mentions a D&D club, I wonder when they first made this sheet and how long they were using it?
The blank line for a seventh stat is a nice touch. Could be Comeliness from Unearthed Arcana, but a much more Holmesian choice would be Agility from Warlock! Some of Holmes' own notes for his dungeons include NPCs with a seventh Agility stat noted.
Zach H From the original poster on Reddit, the sheet was designed by her uncle. She said her dad was the DM and he prefered 1e, but they were adding in 3e elements. Perhaps the sheet was from back when her dad and uncle started playing—likely with Holmes before moving to 1e like so many of us here.
But those "S" or "8" shaped things at the top...!! I remember there being a "fad" circa 1979 of people drawing those on their notebooks at school and such... what the heck are/were they???
Neat, and with the face of DAT in the left corner.
ReplyDeleteA well-used, well-loved sheet

ReplyDeleteInteresting is the use of "Skills" instead of "Class": "I've got Fighter skills"

ReplyDeleteThat was a fun find. A player very interested in wealth and exp..Did you notice they didn't have one bad role?
ReplyDeleteLove it.

Jon Wilson My vague memory associates them with heavy metal of the time. A particular band might've had that 'font'.
ReplyDeleteNick Monitto ...Yeah, I sort of want to connect it to Kiss, but I know that's not their font.
ReplyDeleteIt isn't S for Stussy or the heavy metal band Saxon. What is it? A Moebius strip? vice.com - What the Hell Was That 'S' Thing Everyone Drew in School?
ReplyDeleteVery interesting! I missed that completely. It's a pre-internet meme passed on by kid culture, like the "Batman smells" song.
ReplyDeleteThe original meme. Done.
ReplyDelete~moves on with life -- but continues to be secretly nagged by the S thing~
Styx
ReplyDeleteGood suggestion, Scott. Big throughout the '70s, 1979 album cover has a prominent geometric "S".

Just remember it's a grand illusion.
ReplyDeleteStyx is close, but no cigar IMO... Diagonal bit, yes, but no "three vertical lines above three vertical lines" thing going on...
ReplyDeleteIt is the Gen X logo.
