Update on the reprinting of B1 and B2 from Goodman Games and the conversion to 5e!

This looks promising so far.

  1. I'm a big fan of Goodman Games' archival reproduction/reprint projects. Both the Metamorphosis Alpha and Judges Guild Archives (Vol. I) are stellar products.
A 300+ page hardcover dedicated to these two modules is a crack-cocaine level of nostalgia!
The additional content is something to look forward to on top of everything else.

  2. I worked on Metamorphosis Alpha and the Judges Guild Archives and I can tell you Joe Goodman's obsessive attention to detail is remarkable. I have no doubt Goodman Games will do an amazing job with this hitting all the nostalgia points and also delivering something new and compelling. I'm pretty excited about this!

  3. It's nice to see some new official content

BTW you call the originals "first edition" but they are more properly "basic" edition. They came out before 1e.

  5. Scott Anderson: actually, the Players Handbook 1st printings were printed in June 1978, while the first initial printings of Holmes were issued with M&T Assortments and Geomorphs, rather than modules. The 4th and later Holmes printings included a copy of B1 starting in November 1978, while B2 began to appear in December 1979 and later Holmes printings. So, AD&D does predate the inclusion of B1 and B2 in Holmes (MM + PHB only, DMG was August 1979).

The first two printings of B1 were also explicitly provided with AD&D usage/conversion guidelines, too. So, B1 was issued for use with both Holmes Basic and first edition, but while the first printing of B2 included a statement about AD&D usage on the cover, there were no similar guidelines provided in the module text itself.

    See acaeum.com - B1 & B2 for the details.

  6. When I got my Basic set, it came with the blue-book; B-1, a M&T assortment, a flyer and dice. That was January of '78 and I know the MM was already out by that time.

  7. Huh, I hadn't heard about this. Not sure about my feelings on it.

    (um...not that MY feelings matter)
