The next installment is posted, covering the first section on Treasure. As we might expect, Holmes' Treasure Table is the one from OD&D with a few simplifications. Holmes also intended for Basic to only have silver and gold coins, and simple values for gems/jewelry.

I guess he must have come across the problem of the chest with 2,000 copper pieces, too ... ;-)
ReplyDelete"monsters secrete treasure" - ew!
ReplyDeleteI'm sure Holmes meant "secrete" as in "hide away", but the first interpretation is much more fun and expands Philotomy's idea of the supernatural Underworld (with a capital "U"). :-)
ReplyDeleteYes, it was my mistake. I like to think I have a decent vocabulary but I have never noticed that spelling of secret as a verb. "Secreted away", sure, but I thought that was just adding an "ed" to "secret away" rather than "secrete away".
ReplyDeleteThis is giving me ideas ... :-)
