Quite a lot more explaining toward newbies than I expected. I was expecting something more SRD like based on what I've heard. It does look more like a traditional basic. Something more stripped down of newbie verbage would be more personally useful since I don't need to have 4d6-Lowest etc. explained to me, but I get where they are coming from, and appreciate it for the newbies.
Hey, it's finally here. Looks alright. Also: Good for them that they are crediting Zak S. on the first page. Let's just hope the Overly Cautious Parental Units (tm) won't flip their collective lids when they find out about him.
I'm reading it and liking it. Obviously there are some big shifts and subtle differences to the last 'basic' edition. Magic-users are certainly tougher and have more powerful spells. I'm not certain they need 1d6 hit dice.
Downloaded immediately. 110 pages, no art except on the last page. Lots of detail, more than I would expect in a free set of rules.
ReplyDeleteHolmes is credited on the first page, first name listed under "further development". Nice!

ReplyDeleteLooks good, only thing though is there are no monsters in the pdf.
ReplyDeleteWill Tijerina IIRC, Basic will be updated with monsters when the Monster Manual comes out. Right now it's just material from the PHB.
ReplyDeleteZach H I wonder if the monsters from the last play test of Next are usable with this?

ReplyDeleteStat inflation! They had d6 back in 0e, but it was only at odd levels.
