Thank you, it's great to hear that. Let us know how the initiative works for you. I've found that the Dex-based initiative works great in one-on-one play. After checking for surprise, whoever is faster goes first and then I just alternate from there.
I don't know, I actually like the fact that Holmes initiative is relatively constant (unless surprised). Many systems use random initiative, which makes luck too big a factor. It's a personal preference, of course, and I can see cases for various degrees in-between, e.g DEX + 1d6 for making it a little more random but not completely so.
Still, I'm personally sticking with Holmes initiative for the sheer simplicity of it.
Murdock Berk Holmes sort of has that already - you are supposed to roll a d6 if Dexs are within 2 points of each other. Your suggestion would expand this to within 6 points. Do you mean to do this each round, or just at the beginning and then keep the same order each round? Individual initiative each round really slows combat down, particularly if coupled with declarations before rolling.
Thanks for taking time out from watching the Holmes estate eBay listings to keep us going, Zach H! ;-)

ReplyDeleteAck! I'm glad I got to read it before it disappeared.
ReplyDeleteIt's back! Didn't take much work, just some cutting and pasting. And the comments and views magically re-appeared.
