Table of Contents from the Starter Set rulebook.

Table of Contents from the Starter Set rulebook. Shows more of the cover art; I like it better. The largest part of the rulebook is Spells, followed by Combat.

  1. It's 32 pages? WTF? Obviously there was space for printing the OTHER 32 pages. Grmbl grmbl grmbl...

  2. There will be another 64-page book in the box with the DM rules / adventure. Mike Mearls said on the Escapist is that the Starter Set is "almost like a board game. You read a few rules, pass out the characters, and you start playing. You think of a game like Settlers [of Catan] or Ticket to Ride: You open it up and within an hour you could be playing it. There's also an element there too with the characters, the pre-gens, a guide into the story of the adventure. Your flaws, your bonds, your traits, are all tied into the story of the adventure. We built those characters so that they have ties that link into the adventure." http://www.escapistmagazine.com/articles/view/tabletop/11554-Inside-the-Launch-of-the-New-Dungeons-Dragons-With-Designer-Mike-Mearls.2

  3. I do see a flaw in his analogy, though. Those other games are highly replayable, whereas it doesn't sound like the Starter Set will be.
