Chris, let me know if you have any questions about J. Erics' writings or anything else for your interview. I've exchanged some emails with Chris over the last few years (Allan G got us in touch), but I'm interested in seeing what your focused interview turns up.
My idea was to concentrate more on the actual play experience of Chris with his father in the various campaigns. Also a bit more about both his early published work and his grandfather's writing. I will definitely hit you up for good questions as we get closer.
ReplyDeleteSomething I didn't bring up in public, but was a major part of our conversation was that he was seeking help in getting the Pellucidar books and his father's Conan pastiche in print (or reprinted in Mahars case). That should be kept under your hat as we are looking at direct publishing channels like Kindle's ebook program. Given the trademarked status of Conan proper I don't think the latter book is going anywhere sadly but the two others seem highly likely given the public domain status of that part of ERB's work.
Sounds like a great approach. The tidbits I've heard about his campaigns are fascinating & I'd love to hear more.
ReplyDeleteI have the magazine with his first published short story, Beachhead on the Moon, which came out when he was in college. I finally read it earlier this year. It involves space marines trying to take over a base on the moon! I also have some of his father's books (military fiction and non-fiction) but I haven't read them yet, which is why I haven't posted much about them.
I won't mention anything about the hopeful publications. In an interview (with John Martin) in the early 90's Holmes talked about the Conan story and mentioned he was going to try to re-write it as a non-Conan story. Even if he didn't finish this, it might be possible for Chris or you to simply change some of the proper names (Conan, Hyboria etc) and publish it otherwise as is.
