  1. Just what I was looking for, Halfling thieves and all! I'll run it through its paces this weekend. :-)

  2. Excellent! But, does it work offline?

  3. Robert Weber unfortunately, no - it requires an internet connection as the logic is server-side (no javascript). You could run the perl script itself locally if I distributed it. I may do that, but it may or may not run without some work, depending on your operating system. It does work quite well as-is on smartphone browsers, however.

  4. Thanks for answering quickly, Doug M. This is a great little program (or are they all called "apps" now?) but I can only use it when I get online.  I run Linux/Ubuntu 12.04somethingorother, but most javas & perls work offline just fine with Linux systems. I managed to crash two "smart" phones last year, so I'm sticking to the non-internet accessible trackphone for now, so that option is out. LOL.

  5. That is a great idea, Robert Weber - so good I uploaded the source to github. You can see basic instructions here: http://smolderingwizard.com/2016/02/10/source-code-for-the-holmes-basic-character-generator/ - but if you are running Ubuntu Linux already it will be fairly simple to run this from the command line and get the output into a file for editing or printing.

  6. Doug M, any chance that'd work from the command line on Windows clients? (I'm currently on Win7)

  7. Andy C yes, absolutely. You'll need perl (strawberry perl, cygwin or active perl) and the module mentioned in the readme file. I haven't done much with windows in years, so I can't say how to install the module there, but whatever perl you choose should have FAQs on installing modules.
