Mentzer Expert on Previous Editions

"So many changes have occurred since 1973 that the task of explaining all of them would require a booklet of this size" - Frank Mentzer in 1983 on the changes between D&D editions, from the Expert Set rulebook.

So has someone made the booklet? I have Moldvay and Mentzer but laziness asks...is there a breakdown of these two editions out there? I bet there is.

  1. I think Frank is mostly talking about the changes leading up to B/X, not the changes between B/X and the "BE" in BECMI. There's not really that much, as you can see from various threads on discussion forums:

  2. The biggest ones are changes to spell progressions, Thief skill progressions, and a few monsters removed/added.
