Hogs are no joke - any animal nasty enough to get its own medieval weapon (the boar spear, with a cross bar below the point to keep an enraged porker from pushing itself up the shaft) deserves much respect. And then of course there is the precedent of Hogzilla: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hogzilla.. An 8 foot long, 800 lbs+ pig with 19-28" tusks is not to be taken lightly. On the D&D side, always been partial to the Devil Swine from B/X as well.
Okay, purple pigs may be the single best monster ever created...
