I had a monster in a module I wrote called the "avatar of Icthydeus" (Icthydeus of course being the god of evil fish) that was an octopus crossed with an angler fish.
Pathfinder appears to have a race called Grindylow that is half goblin-half octopus. These guys are a further variant that includes shark. So the ears are from the goblin portion: newpathfinderraces.wordpress.com - Grindylow
