Gamma-Two is now Columbia Games. I met the owner (and inventor of the block wargame) Tom Dalgliesh at his house near the British Columbia border a few years ago. He had some really cool stories to tell of the old days of gaming Cons etc.
Aha, I see what you are saying now. When you said "Dungeon" I though you mean the "monster" rather than the word "Dungeon". Yes, the same stylized "DUNGEON!" was used in the 1975 Dungeon game, as seen in this picture from Wayne's Books: waynesbooks.com
This reminds me of the corridor that ends in a monster's mouth, in one of your old dungeons that you posted on your blog. Which I can't find now.

ReplyDeleteHave always loved that one - I saw an homage by a modern artist - will see if I can post it here

Tho I don't think I'd seen the Blackmoor supplement when I drew this.
ReplyDeleteIsn't that "Dungeon" the same as the logo from the boardgame Dungeon! ?
ReplyDeleteMy google skills are failing me, and I can't find an image of the original version...
Jon, that image was used briefly as the Dungeon Hobby Shop logo. Perhaps you are thinking of that?

ReplyDeleteI imagine it was designed for the game and then recycled for the Dungeon Hobby Shop, but it's possible it was the other way around.
ReplyDeleteHere are the credits for the 1975 version Dungeon. I took this photo at Gary Con last year of one of Dave Megarry's original copies. It says cover art by Larry Kessling, but there's no indication of who drew the logo. Could be Kessling, could be someone else uncredited.

I was actually pointing you to the logo on the Retail Order Blank, but it's a happy coincidence that same thread had the You'll Be Amazed ad, too. Here's a better shot of the logo. Basically the same thing as on that ad that Scott posted, but in smaller format like the other TSR Logos (Lizard, Wizard, Face et al)

"Lizard Wizard Face" ought to be a thing...
