A few weeks ago I was interviewed by Chad Parish of the Dead Games Society, and the topic was all about one of my favorite iterations of D&D: the Holmes Basic Set. The Dr. Holmes set fueled my imagination in the early 1980s and beyond to today. It was my first D&D set, purchased in 1981 through the Sears catalog, and I've always been incredibly fond of it. 1. Holmes "Bluebook", module B-1, dice (remember the ginormous D12?) And a monster/ treasure assortment. All tucked into in the coolest box I had yet seen.
That was my genesis; $9.95 + tax from a local stationary store, it was Dec of 1977.

  2. I wanted more miniatures but the clerk talked my mom into that instead. This was a 'complete' game and would lead into the up coming AD&D. It wasn't a bunch of rinky dink pamphlets. And it turns out to be my favorite today.

  3. Jeff Talanian Listened to the whole interview tonight. Fantastic job! You are quite the ambassador for Holmes. Do you mind if I post a link to it on my blog?
