Any d6 Star Wars fans here?

Any d6 Star Wars fans here? I had never played it before, but lately I've been digging in since my son is really into SW now. So far we've mostly been running some of the introductory solo adventures, which work great for one-on-one sessions.

  1. I haven't played in years but d6 is my favorite Star Wars RPG system.

  2. It's a bucket list item for me, but truth be told, I'll probably play Wizardawn's version before I get a chance to play the d6 version.

  3. It's pretty good. I prefer the 2nd edition rule set, but the 1st edition is very concise and does a good job (especially if you've got some of the 1E supplements to use in conjunction). I haven't played D6 SW since the "prequel trilogy" were made, so I never had a chance to try the system with the material/style of Episodes I-III, nor have I tried it in alternate SW-universe settings (like Knights of the Old Republic, Clone Wars, etc.). But as the original system for the original trilogy it seemed fine...if a little hamstrung by the movie characters being the "real heroes."

D6 itself is pretty good. The skill list is long for my taste, but the pre-builds help. Some of the way they do skills (like linguistics and animal handling) are really well done, and combat is pretty good genre imitation. I prefer it to the later D20 systems (most of which were train wrecks). The SAGA edition Star Wars did quite a few cool things, but there's a lot of extra fiddly complexity for running something that's supposed to be WaHoo space opera.

  4. I haven't played d6 Star Wars since the late 80's but it was a blast to play. Fast paced, cinematic action, movie style direction, event driven plots, all work well for this SW rpg.

We played quite a few of the 1e modules, used only the first 2 rulebooks (rpg rules and the first companion), but since coming back home, I picked up all the 1e books, mods and supplements. The only component I'm missing is "Star Warriors" (I think it's called?) the ship to ship mass combat set, but the ship combat rules in the rpg are very adequate.

  5. WEG D6 SW is one of my favorite games, hands down. I always played with a mish-mash of 1e and 2e rules (I never forgave 2e for dropping speed codes), but didn't care for 2ere's "simplifications" of the rules. 1e/2e always seemed simple enough...

  6. Thanks for the responses folks. FYI, if you hadn't heard there's a "new" edition of d6 Star Wars edited by fans; it's called REUP for Revised-Expanded-Updated:

  7. Try as I might, I can't get any of my kids into Star Wars.  I just don't get it.

  8. I thought the same, until he played the The Lego Star Wars: The Complete Saga video game.

Now he's hooked on the Clone Wars series, which has over 120 episodes...!

  9. I loved the original first edition but it lost its lustre for me with later editions when it become more rulesy.
