A spell point system similar to the one in Warlock is probably what Holmes was referring to in Dragon #52, when he mentions that during the development of Basic D&D, "I had disagreements with Gary over some items (I wanted to use a spell point system, for instance), but we kept the rules as close as possible to the original intent." #completewarlock
The more time I spend with it, the more I like the Warlock's spell point system. It seems to allow for really meaningful choices of what to do with the spell repertoire an MU has bothered to memorize.
ReplyDeleteThis was interesting, not only because it's a chance to see part of a hard-to-find game, but also because I think that the D&D I was taught included some Warlock material from the early zine articles. we had a spell-point system where there was a flat spell-point range for every spell level, and I do think it was 1-4 for 1st level, 1-6 for 2nd; points were deducted from "Magical Conductivity", although I don't remember how this was calculated.
