Okay folks, looks like my Monday night gaming group is falling apart, which means I'm considering running BLUEHOLME late-ish on Monday nights, starting around 10p EST and running 2-3 hours (more if we're feeling it). I thought I'd suss out this group first to see if there's any interest before I go ahead and start creating events and such.

The D&D/AD&D pdfs are back.
The D&D/AD&D pdfs are back. B1 is available for free this week; you need a RPGNow account to download it. It's the Moldvay version rather than the Holmes version. Quality is good. No Holmes Basic pdf yet, but I'm sure it's coming eventually, as they said the pdfs would have a staggered release.

In Search of... The Unknown!
As DMed by Leonard Nimoy... [cue creepy synthesizer music] A curious ruined tower stands on a hill in the forested wilderness. Below the crumbling structure, a tunnel leads into darkness. Whatever became of the people who built this mysterious place?
From the description of the Gate spell in the Greyhawk Supplement (1975):

"Employment of this spell opens a cosmic portal and allows an ultra-powerful being (such as Odin, Crom, Set, Cthulhu, the Shining One, a demi-god, or whatever) to come to this plane"
Earliest reference to the Cthulhu mythos in D&D?

One of my interests is newspaper and magazine articles about D&D from the 70s and early 80s. Ken mentioned one in the Detroit News from around 1977, which he hasn't been able to locate. An excellent one that is available is "Fantasy Life in a Game Without End", from the L.A. Times, summer of 1979. They interviewed Holmes (an L.A. resident) as part of the article and there's a photo of him.

Monster Brains is a blog I follow that simply posts cool monster art from the past decades. It's not usually D&D-related, but they just posted nice large scans of the AD&D Picture Transfers from 1981, featuring art from the Monster Manual and Fiend Folio in full color. Some of you may remember these. I still have some stuck in the back of my Monster Manual II. With some effort, someone might be able to make some nice paper minis of the artwork from these transfers.

Mentions how the various Basic D&D lines, including the 1977 Set, kept the Shadow as a non-undead creature, unlike in AD&D.
