I remember coming across this in a secondhand book store 20+ years ago and grabbing it immediately. I had no idea who JEH was at the time, but had already read all of the Tarzan and Pellucidar novels, and was thrilled at finding a hitherto unknown (to me) pastiche. I recall that it was quite good, and I still have it. Kudos to Zach for helping score a copy of the manuscript to the sequel a few years ago!
Christopher West created the teleportation beam and is called red axe because of his knife? I think he misremembered a few details.
