Old school D&D session for the next generation of players...

A podcast with a cool name that I'd never heard of before.

A podcast with a cool name that I'd never heard of before. This installment covers the Basic Sets, including Holmes briefly. Decent overview, although with some errors in details though, like calling Holmes an "east-coast doctor" (ouch).

Scaffolds & Dragons: Races
I've been playing a lot with the kid, mostly by-the-book Holmes. I bough the kid his own copy of the  Blueholme Prentice Rules , which makes for a great introduction. It's clearly written, a nicely digestible amount for a kid to wrap his head around, and th...

OD&D Actual Play: Goblins, Ogres, and a Dark Wizard!
Balticon this year offered me the chance to cross two things off of my to do list: meet Jensen in person, and play the Original D&D 3 little brown books (plus Greyhawk). The cast of characters is as follows: DM - Chort Corporal Cosima the Russian (Fighter 2...

On page 13 of the OD&D Monsters & Treasure book, is that illustration (appearing with the dragon information) supposed to be a gargoyle (which is described on the next page)?

Beyond the Door to Monster Mountain: An Introductory Adventure from the Zenopus Archives.

Beyond the Door to Monster Mountain: An Introductory Adventure from the Zenopus Archives. The Town is built against the base of a forbidding mountain. In the back of town is an old metal door fixed into the mountainside. Rumors say that beyond the door lies the Rat Room but further in the corridors are never quite the same...

I posted this adventure on the blog last year but now I've revised it using Holmes Basic stats and in a one-page dungeon format (downloadable pdf).

Sharing these on Facebook and G+ first. These are "microcard" versions of special playing cards I'm releasing through DriveThruCards and TheGameCrafter. These tiny versions print on four sheets of card. The designs combine geomorph tile art with dice randomisers (d20, d6 and d100). Print both sides and then cut the sheets up with scissors to make a tiny deck of cards.

After a bit of a delay due to RW busyness, here is Part 49, covering Rooms J-M of the Sample Dungeon. The biggest changes here were to the stats of the monsters in the rooms, which were generally weaker in Holmes' original version.
